The Effective Thermal Conductivity of Unsaturated Porous Media Deduced by Pore-Scale SPH Simulation

نویسندگان

چکیده

The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method was employed to simulate the heat transfer process in porous media at pore scale. effective thermal conductivity of a medium can be predicted through simulation experiment SPH. accuracy SPH verified by comparing values with reference for ideal homogeneous and multiphase layered media. 3D experiments were implemented granular generated PFC method. Based on framework, concise proposed produce unsaturated simulating wetting dry This approach approximates formation liquid bridges water films granules. Through experiments, empirical formula variation degree saturation tested. results showed that reciprocal normalized are linearly related, which is line Cote Konrad.

Permeability and effective thermal conductivity of bisized porous media

In the region of minimum porosity of particulate binary mixtures, heat exchange and permeability were found to be higher than the ones obtained with a mono-size packing built with the same small size particles used in the binary packing. This effect was noticed in the range of the particles size ratio 0.1–1.0. The obtained improvement on thermal performance is related to the increase of effecti...

Pore scale simulation of solute transport in fractured porous media

[1] We investigate the effects of the porosity (and thus permeability) of porous matrix and the fracture aperture on transport in fractured porous media. We do so with detailed lattice Boltzmann simulations on constructed porous media with a single fracture. Both plume spatial moments (the average plume velocity and the dispersion coefficients) and mass transfer coefficients between the facture...

Mesoscopic predictions of the effective thermal conductivity for microscale random porous media.

A mesoscopic numerical tool has been developed in this study for predictions of the effective thermal conductivities for microscale random porous media. To solve the energy transport equation with complex multiphase porous geometries, a lattice Boltzmann algorithm has been introduced to tackle the conjugate heat transfer among different phases. With boundary conditions correctly chosen, the alg...

Effective Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity

Steady-state and transient one-dimensional unsaturated flow in vertically stratified porous media are examined. Saturated hydraulic conductivity and the alpha parameter of the exponential hydraulic conductivity function were assumed to vary from soil layer to soil layer. The use of effective unsaturated hydraulic conductivity to compute matric potential in the soil profile is demonstrated. Resu...
